You need to distinguish the RIGHT to pay for a celebrity endorsement from the EXERCISE of that right.  ("I disagree with what you say but will defend to the death your right to say it.") It is not hypocracy to support the former while lamenting the latter.
If Nike values a celebrity endorsement at $10 M. & the athlete accepts the $10M, on what basis could a third party prevent it?
