It continues to amaze me to what lengths intelligent people will go in
order to make the life-experience something that it isn't.

Yeah, me too. Like convince themselves that they've solved the riddle with
a aberrant sophistry they call Essentialism.
As for the rest, well, to set the "individual" and the "collective" up as
antonymical poles, or oppositional forces, is lunacy. The individual
contains the collective just as the collective contains the individual.
That is the key to breaking out of the illusive dichotomy constantly
proposed by those who would assuage their fragile egos by rhetorically
elevating The Wonderous Proprietary Self to a mastubatory high.
