Craig et al,

Just to joint up a few dots, for no particular purpose.
I've visited Jordan, and thanks to some travel mishaps, (like getting
lost in a sandstorm and falling asleep at the road-side, and on
another occasion getting bogged down to the axles in the desert -
evidence in my 2005 conference slides coincidentally) I have good
reason to find Jordanians incredibly helpful and friendly.

A point that stuck in my mind, was that when being friendly they were
also keen to acknowledge their appreciation of westerners visiting
them in times when assorted arab "troubles" were embarassing them and
keeping travellers away.

Of course the reason for being in Jordan (apart from the air-miles) is
my other passion, TE (Ned) Lawrence (of Arabia), who was instrumental
in ensuring the Hashemite Husseins got their piece of the action,
before the politicians completed their dirty work at the Paris peace
conference, and Ned did a Pirsig, wrote and became a recluse.

It's all connected.
Sorry, as you were.
Ian
