If you watch children on the play ground, you will notice how they get
along pretty well and they only react to each others' actions and
reactions.

The grandmothers in this scenario ( also the parents) are the one that
spoon feed those kids the "History"

Remember the grandma in the movie "My big fat Greek wedding", and how
every one was a Turk.

As the kids grow up they are taught that one sided history by the parents
while putting the blame on the others. So as that kid is raised, he or
she are being taught to distinguish friend from foe, not leaving much
room for open minded ness.

The same thing happens on this forum. We are always saying " well back in
1958..." or " when so and so was president". We cant's seem to let go of
the past. In a way you need to know the past.

Forgiving and forgetting is another story.
