A gopher is, we place human characteristics on it. A gopher doesn't know
what a rose is, we do. I am saying that gophers exist independently of us in
reality and that reality only exists with humans.
[Case]
I know no more about your ability to smell or see a rose than I do about a
gopher's. You seem to think that your ability to describe your perceptions
verbally entitles you to more epistemological status than the gopher. But if
I adopt the skeptical position you advise, it does not.
I can infer things about your status in reality by what you say but I can
infer things about gopher's status by what it does. Since both inferences
are based of my own sense perceptions, you and the gopher have equal status
to me at least as far as your respective existences are concerned.
To carry this a step farther my sense data concerning my dog gives it higher
status than you because all I know about you is two dimensional lines on a
glowing screen. One the other hand I have evidence of my dog that comes from
all of my senses.
