great film. really great.

the juxtaposition of american and mexican culture is
central to this film, being set on the border.

mexican culture:
sharing
gift
awareness of and a belonging in nature
family and community
natural knowledge
peace
egalitarian
acceptance
aesthetic awareness
simplicity


american culture:
individuals isolated from one another. 
porn
violence
dulled aesthetic sense
infidelity
authoritarian
boredom
mall
work
unnatural
popularity 
frustration
resentment
impotence
fear


and the cultural exchange is heavily biased. TV and
economic imperialism seduce and batter respectively.
low quality culture is killing high quality culture. 

this murder is unintentional. the tragic irony is that
it is stupidity more than anything else that allows
this to keep happening. stupid individuals. there is
not much malice at all, just people who can't seem to
work out why their life sux. wrapped up in their own
narcissistic shit, they are oblivious to the real
suffering that their own docility helps perpetuate at
home and abroad.

the american monster grows as compassion wanes.
the american monster feeds off the stupid and the
vain.
the american monster destroys what it doesn't
understand.

this monster can be seen alive and malignant in
several people on this list. i don't need to name
names. i just want to speak my truth rather than play
it nice and polite, cos sometimes that is too much
like hypocrisy. i don't think the monster will be
stopped by minding our Ps and Qs.

this monster is a parasite that is killing the whole
fucking planet. this greedy white male disease. when
you see it call it - call it like it is, but without
malice or hatred, for that pulls you in to the same
'death-instinct' that the monster feeds from. honesty
not animosity.

i guess you are either for everyone or for yourself.
or in other words you are either for your true self or
your ego. your true self encompasses everyone and
everything; your ego is how you see yourself through
society's eyes.

anyway enough from me. i am just frustrated...guess
which culture i am part of!
