It's the economy.

And living here in Fresno, we see that more and more every day, not just
with people from Mexico but with immigrants from all over the world.

They will come and work here, but still keep dearly to those things Gav
mentions

> Mexican culture:
> sharing
> gift
> awareness of and a belonging in nature
> family and community
> natural knowledge
> peace
> egalitarian
> acceptance
> aesthetic awareness
> simplicity

and here is what we notice, whether it's the East Indian chief of surgery
at the local hospital, the Philippina nurse or the Mexican gardener:

1. They make the money here, while the rest of the family lives back
'home'
2. the whole family lives here, but they vacation in their native country
3. Still vote in their native country
4. Dual citizen ships.
5. Puts more values on family time, and refuses to do the 60 hours week.
6. Community centers that keep them isolated from the mainstream.
7. Our elementary schools has to deal with over 100 native languages.
8. go back home to get a bride.

I am not saying these things are good or bad, just making an observation.
And when the next civil war happens, they will jump ship and have a place
to call home
