gav said to platt:
a slave is OWNED. that is why he isn't free.
dmb butts in:
Your point is reinforced by American history. The slave owners of the old
South defended the practice on the basis of property rights. (And the
bible.) Its kinda funny how people will defend oppressive ideas in the name
of freedom. (Or defend individuality in a parrot-like manner.) This is when
irony breaks out into full blown humor.
gav axed:
is the worker owned by his company? is the individual owned by his country?
dmb says:
the country is owned by the companies. they also, in effect, own the US
Senate, the House the Presidency. Its a coin-operated government. These days
it is not of, by or for the people. Mybe its always been a racket, but you
should see the stats showing the profound increase in the number and
influence of lobbists. Its gotton to the point where industries write the
laws that "govern" them. It amazes me that anyone thinks this isn't
profoundly anti-democratic. I mean, the free-market types over at the
Heritage Foundation are not oblivious to this situation and yet persist in
their defense of the that religion, um, I mean idea.
