Case said to dmb:
Actually, Daniel Robinson's primary field of study is psychology.

dmb says:
Actually, its worse than that. His Ph.D. is in neuropsychology!

Case said:
If one is unhappy with academia then step outside of it. Pirsig seems to
have tinkered around the edges of it before moving on and yet I get the
sense strong sense of sour grapes over the fact that he has by and large not
been taken seriously in academia.

dmb says:
I think you've confused me with Gav. I just went back to school and I'm
loving it. Hopefully, I'll get a Master's Degree at least and then join the
ranks of academia after that. So far, everything I've learned is illuminated
by Pirsig's work and I am increasingly optimistic about the possibilities of
doing something with the MOQ in the academic world.

Case said:
So you think the Teaching Company is part of the conspiracy of the religious
right?

dmb says:
No, I'm saying that I don't like the Teaching Company's bias in their
teaching, not that they fired shots from the grassy knoll.

Case said
You think I am some kind of religious zealot trying to sneak in the word of
God through college lectures and the Jesus Seminar? You just crack me up.

dmb says:
Yea, I crack myself up too. But I think that here you have confused me with
Dan. We pretty much agree about the Jesus Seminar and the nature of such
scholarship. But, in terms of the larger debate we've been having and
mysticism and theism, I also suspect you have a dog in this fight. One that
you're not very willing to show. The Teaching Company would be very
comforting for a person who respects intellectual validity, but wants to
have his faith too. So I'm GUESSING you like it cause its so kind to that
unseen dog. But I don't know. You tell me.

I owe a reply to another of your posts and hope to get to it soon.

Later.
dmb
