Dan,

You've probably recieved a better education for $10 in library fines
than the one I got for thirty thousand dollars.  There is nothing to be
ashamed of about not having an institutional education.  In fact, your
pursiut of knoweldge outside that stagnant ivory tower gives your more
legitimacy in my eyes because it was directed by your own sense of quality.
You weren't asking some local guide to lead you by the hand down the path of
knowledge, instead you wandered it yourself and as long as your satisfied
with the place that you've ended up, you should be proud of your
achievements.

It's only too bad that you decided not to come to the conference, I would
have been delighted to chat with you... maybe next time :)
