[MD] are theism and mysticism mutually exclusive notions?

Probably it's just me but I find fractals attractive but ultimately boring.
I guess it's their repetitive character that after awhile makes them ho-hum.
By contrast, humans using just three primary colors plus black and white
(a simple formula if you will) create a far greater variety of interesting
and meaningful images, some of which break through static patterns to reveal
DQ shining all around. As I look at nature, it seems to appear more like
what human artists create than what a Mandelbrot equation produces,
suggesting to me that mind (consciousness) is more a part of nature than our
scientists care to admit.

I honestly thought you would like them, I am sorry. I should point out a
couple things though. The most famous uses of these equations was in the
design of movie and video special effects. They can be used to draw
landscapes, terrains, environments of extraordinary detail, so artists have
been among the first to embrace them.

Also the colors you see in most representations of the Mandelbrot set are
there for esthetic reasons. The set itself can be seen as black and white.
Any number plugged into the iteration will fall to zero, fly to infinity or
oscillate forever. So call zero black, infinity white and the path between
them comes alive.

I guess this suggests to me that nature is more mathematical than many
people care to admit.
