The moon is infinitely long, too, due to it being
circular. Something circular can be walking in
circles back to the same place again, but no matter
how many times I've walked a circle, changes will
occur. I can keep finding something fascinating about
dirt. Your ..."coastline gets longer and longer."
reminds me of fascination, ..."longer and longer..."
"...more and more precise..." "...infinitely long."

I'm sure this has to do with each of these
structures having only specific possibilities or
outcomes in appearance due to properties inherent in
each one of them, their natural inclination. I
believe these are also called facets, as Stephen J.
Gould mentions these in his 'The Structure of
Evolutionary Theory'. If we are discussing structure
and function, then Darwin focused on the function
aspect of evolution, as others before him focused on
the structure aspect, namely archetypes and such.
Gould relates the two, resolves the two, that were the
basis of arguments in evolutionary theory for
centuries. He discusses in hundreds of pages, thus
I'll give the summary I remember from the read a
couple of years ago, how the structures of creatures
will put constraints upon their functionary ability.
Thus, the static patterns, though in the flow to
change (dq), evolutionarily speaking and from
hind-sights perspective, the functions of these
structures that have constraints adapt and thus,
relate to the environments in certain ways. Human
beings are very generalized in our structure, thus,
are very flexible in our functions. It is culture
that tends to put the constraints upon us as
generalized creatures having us specialize in
something building civilizations that are diverse.
After reading your post, this is what I thought
about.
