Ideas (flat world, God) can have value for a very long
time, and then lose their value for something better. 
I have no need for either religion or God.  There are
lots of us who find those concepts silly.

     G-d, a concept?  Not really sure about that.  G-d
to me, is something more than just me, this human
being.  I can see myself as the woods, and G-d is
still something more than that.  G-d to me is a
mystery.  G-d, to me, is what Pirsig calls quality. 
G-d to me is also what I find difficult to put
boundaries upon and point to and say this is where I
begin and this is where G-d ends - I can't do it, and
yet, I know I'm not conflating myself when I speak
this way - it's more circular talk than anything.  I
believe Dan's point was that just because you,
"...find those concepts silly." doesn't mean they are
silly at all or to others, either way possibly.  And
so G-d lives on.
