In re: "man is the measure of all things"
Suppose man evolves into a new species [= homo superus]. They are like us except they can perceive (besides visible light) infrared, ultra-violet, x-rays, brain waves, etc. This last gives them the power of mental telepathy amongst themselves. They grow up with us, speak the same language, attend the same schools, etc. (The homo superuses in a class have been known to turn in identical test papers.) They tell us our reality is a subset of theirs. They understand ours completely, but they are only able to inform us of some parts of their reality by simplifying it for us. You are chatting with a group of them & mention that homo sapiens is the measure of all things. In unison they fall to the floor, rolling & laughing.
Speculation, yes. But isn't this how we clarify our concepts? Not by clinging to a slogan.
