[MD] conspiracy theories

hey all,
credit for this post has to go to dave buchanan as it
was a conversation with him that helped me see a
better way of understanding conspiracy theories.

first we need to admit that oft times the conspiracy
theorists are correct, insofar as they show that
official truths are sometimes false.

the jfk/lee harvey oswald scenario is a classic
example of a high level conspiracy. there are many
others but i chose this because now it is universally
accepted that oswald was a patsy and that kennedy was
assassinated by 'organised powers', rather than a lone
nut.

so let us just say that sometimes the official truth
is a lie. just how often we'll leave for further
discussions.

now this is the point where conspiracy theories come
in: something seems fishy with the 'official
fiction'...alternative versions of what actually
happened and why are put forward....

these alternative explanations nearly always rely on
powerful sinister people to execute said conspiracy.
you can follow the logic chain to the 'illuminati' if
you are familiar with this sort of stuff, ie secret
powerful cabal controls the world.

now this sort of stuff sells HEAPS of books (eg david
icke) but it actually only reinforces the 'control'
that the authors seek to expose and weaken. i know
because i have had my 'icke' freakout already. ant has
had a squiz too (at my eager prompting).

the conspiracy theories are often simply more
plausible than the official versions. jfk, bobby
kennedy, john lennon, martin luther king, port arthur
massacre, dunblane massacre....there is a lot more to
all of these murders than 'they' would have us
believe. and thanks to the net this point is harder to
ignore than ever. but who are 'they'?

'they' ends up being a very powerful, very sadistic,
very evil secret cabal. scared yet? i was. if
conspiracy theories are on the ball enough they often
lead to this sort of conclusion. truth set you free?
bullshit. live in fear most likely.

and there you have it: fear. that's the keyword.
conspiracy theories maximise anger for a while but it
is fear that goes the distance. and what is this fear
from an MOQ perpsective? this fear is how the social
level keeps the intellectual level- the autonomous
individual - down.

>From an MOQ perspective the social level is real and
discrete. it is part of us all and it seeks to control
us. this is pirsig's GIANT.

from the Giant's perspective individuals are
biological entities that are morally inferior to it.
the giant gave us biological entities a lot of funky
new stuff: language, cities, beer etc, but in return
it demands tribute, obeisance.

so in comes the intellectual level, borne of the
social level and morally superior to it. BUT THE GIANT
CAN"T SEE THIS. it is impossible for the giant to see
this. all the giant sees is danger, threat. the giant
fears. the giant fears losing control.

fear. the giant knows fear and knows how to use it. to
regain control the giant needs his biological subjects
to feel fear, to again seek safety in his patriarchal
embrace.

the giant creates war on massive scale just as the
20th century is accelerating forward towards a new era
of intellectual rather than social guidance.
the twenties see a swing back to the intellect as the
giant's handiwork is still fresh in the memory.
the giant bounces back with that arch-social ideology:
fascism.
again we swing back: the fifties and sixties. massive
intellectual progression. more freedom than ever
before...surely the giant is vanquished?
no.
vietnam, communism, the cold war, drugs... new fears
replace old ones. the media becomes a more and more
effective mouthpiece for the giant. the 80s bring AIDS
and a new more mercenary corporate/political
partnership that adds another scare to families and
individuals everywhere (my parents left the uk when
thatcher got voted in).
now we have terrorism, al qaeda, global warming, bird
flu....

the giant seeks to retain control and this is more
moral to him than biological entities. these are
expendable for the greater good. killing is not a
problem for the giant; neither is misinformation;
neither is environmental toxicity, neither is
censorship, neither is mediocrity, banality and
kitsch. all these things keep the social order in
control, under pressure from a force that the giant
doesn't understand: the intellect.

but the giant needs people. the giant feeds off
people. the giant is the 'matrix'.

the intellectual level feeds off society. it needs
*groups* of people to mutually evolve one another.

we are in this together it seems.

i hope that this helps explain why conspiracy theories
are born: the official versions are often lies. why?
from an MoQ perspective it is 'rational' behaviour for
the threatened giant.

and we don't need evil cabals to explain them.

phew.
