Platt is inviting me to clarify my position. But I don't know if it will be a
dialogue or a duel.
[Arlo]
I'd anticipate a duel.
[Stella]
There are several reasons for my reluctance. I will have to debate in a foreign
language, and I haven't dealt with these questions in English before.
[Arlo]
You're English is quite good.
[Stella]
So, before setting out to give any examples or telling about any differences, I
would like to know if the interest in my opinion is due to sincere intersest in
uncovering some deeper insights into the society we live in, or if this is just
a way to give me the opportunity to dig my own grave because I don't happen to
agree on capitalism being the best we can do.
[Arlo]
Some advice. This topic has been bantered about many times before, way back to
when I joined the list a few years ago, and then even before that. There are
those that do nothing but take any criticism of modern American capitalism and
flood the dialogue with "you love gulags", "you're a commie" and "you sould
like Pol Pot". This has never changed. If you do have ideas and insight into
areas surrounding this discussion be warned that although many will listen and
dialogue (agreers and disagreers), a few will do nothing but attempt to make
you out to be an evil, America-hating, anti-freedom commie. If you are ready
for that, and can deal with it in its course, you'll find the dialogue
worthwhile.
But then again, Sweden IS part of the "Evil Empire" (along with North Korea,
Canada, Mexico, Iran, all of Africa, Saudi Arabia, the Pacific Islands, Japan,
the lesser American continent, the places where people aren't white and don't
speak English, all the -istans, Count Chocula's homeland, Jamaica, Haiti and
those reefer tribes, Easter Island, Greenland, Eurasia, Scotland, the Maldives,
Lichtensomething, Antarctica, and the Biggest Threat to World Stability,
Cuba)... ;-)
Welcome to the list, Stella.
