[Platt to DMB]
Have you looked at recent history lately? Atheists in Germany, Russia, China and
Cambodia slaughtered more people in the 20th century than all the religious
fanatics in human history. Get real.

Which demonstrates that neither "theism" nor "atheism" make one ipso facto a
moral person, let alone a "good" person, and that in the quest for power bad
men will use "any means necessary", whether its claiming divine will in
exterminating populations of "savages", or claiming state superiority in
exterminating populations of "believers". Both the "state" and the "church" are
social static patterns, and both seek to consolidate power, enlarge their
dominance, and claim "superiority" over other static patterns. Until recently
in modern times, the "state" was held impotent by the "church". Now, the
"state" has emerged as a challenger to the power of the "church". Some have
sought to reconcile the two, intwine them somehow, others have tossed in with
one side over the other, to various levels of extremism. But, you'll notice in
history, that the problems are always evidenced when "blind obedience" to the
power structure (whether its church or state) becomes the operative norm.
Thankfully we've had a sort-of enlightenment in the West, where people are
weary about blind obedience to either. Well... mostly.
