top of my head, there is the problem of claiming to be an atheist in the 
"real world" but not so much when it comes to the metaphysical questions. 
Not only is this inconsistant with itself, it defies the fact that atheism 
is itself a metaphysical position. Then there is the problem of Pirsig's 
explicitly anti-theistic stance. Philosophical mysticism is opposed to 
theism, to be distinquished from theism. I don't think you've grappled with 
this at all and this is where your "hole" comes into the picture. I think 
that whole hole idea is a fictional problem, a fill the gaps of knowledge 
with speculations about divine beings sort of nonsense.
