Sorry you have had a bad experience here.  I have travelled many countries on 5 continents & the U. S. is my favorite.  I think that if you actually went to a fascist country, you would find that there are worse things than a lot of flags flying.
I think part of the problem here is the "3-sigma factor".  Whenever you have freedom & a large sample, both the very best & the very worst will emerge.  The key is to provide for the +3 sigma, while preventing or eliminating the -3 sigma.
