Good points Mike and pretty much what I'm getting at. Marriage in and of 
itself is of little importance in relation to a stable and loving union. 
If you have a stable and loving relationship but don't feel the need of 
societies approval for your union, why bother? Is this anti-social? If 
so, why? From my own experience kids are more interested in their 
parents loving them than having a piece of paper that says society 
approves of your relationship.

Probably not. But I'd reckon that all societies need a lot more loving 
and stable relationships. Marriage doesn't bring this so for me it's 
pretty much irrelevant.
