So would you say that once you have been told to see the 'green flash' as the
sun sets you would tend to notice such nuances in other things too, or do you
think that you have to be told about each green flash as it relates to its
subject.

No... although I think this isn't quite a good analogy. But I'd say once you
were aware of the "green flash", you'd be curious about other "blind spots" and
perhaps seek out information others have found and regarding them.

To put it in another way, if you get trained to appreciate the nuance in one
discipline, that training carries over to other disciplines?

Well, I am hedging linking "nuances" with "artful engagement". While I'd have no
problem with the suggestion that "artful engagement" likely means an
appreciation for nuances will be picked up as well, I'm not sure it works ipso
facto in the other direction.
