     Yes, I know you... in a way... you made a truly
understandable, pry our experience into focus comment.
 
     The old one fixed.  The screen wouldn't light up.
 It was fixed once, brought home, and the screen
stayed lit for 30 seconds or so, then shut down.  It
was brought back, and fixed.  It needed a new 'light
bulb' or something.  I know I'm simplifying the
problem.  It took about a month or more maybe to get
it corrected.
