Isn't that the tragic legacy of the Republican right? Beginning with a
president telling us that government IS the problem and leading up to a
president who espouses a political philosophy rooted in Machiavelli.

When it reaches a point that We the People have no confidence in our ability
to establish and run social institution, much trouble ensues. I don't think
that leadership and statesmanship are lost. They are simply not rewarded. We
the People elected these guys. Their agenda and philosophy were not hidden.
We are getting what we asked for. Why should anyone be surprised at the
results?
