reason is no challenge to theology. The reasonable theory that all is 
matter and energy consists of neither matter nor energy. Reason rests on 
unprovable premises. I assume you are familiar with Godel.

As to the first part of your statement I would have to admit that I actually
do think that way. I am often reminded of Robert Anton Wilson's statement,
"Think of how dumb the average guy is and remember that half of the people
are dumber than him." I mostly object to theologies and political view that
elevate ignorance to a virtue.

Unproven assumptions are inevitable. Which ones we make are matters of
choice. I prefer to be guided by probability.

Are you saying cause and effect laws (determinism) other than in quantum 
physics have been repealed by science and that I will live forever? If so, 
a lot a pathologists will be out of work.

I believe what I have said repeatedly is that "cause and effect" are special
cases where probability is estimated at 100%. Such instances are tragically
rare. With regard to living forever I would refer you to Ray Kurzweil.
Extrapolating Moore's Law to medicine Kurzweil thinks that we have the
potential to extend life if not forever at least indefinitely.
