Life utilises energy as it undergoes entropy yet increased in order and
complexity.
 
Further than this, social patterns, which increase in complexity further
than biological patterns cannot be described in entropic terms.

[Case]
Life does not use entropy. It uses energy waylaying it, and transforming
it as it moves toward dissipation.

I can not resist noting that none of this causes problem for the MoQ as
I know it.

Fair enough but i need to see how this applies to social and
intellectual patterns.

[Case]
Once you grant that the earth is an open system, thermodynamically
speaking, then all of the problems go away. It is no longer a question
of entropy but a question of how the influx of energy is dispersed. For
social patterns it is a matter of how the society is able to find and
exploit energy source. 

If we set the wayback machine to visit Great great... Granddaddy Uga we
find him busy with his invention of fire. He figured out a way to take
the sunlight trapped inside fallen tree branches and convert it to heat.
This allowed him to cook his food and warm his children. The food he
uses to convert the suns energy stored in small game to his own bodily
energy. He makes children to keep the ball rolling. 

The sophistication of a society is measured by its ability to use
energy.
Agriculture allows the trapping and storing of sunlight in food to be
more predictable and readily available. The result is the society can
support more people. The wheel allows horse power to be used more
efficiently. Water wheels convert the flow of water into work. Use of
fossil fuels allows energy stored many years ago to be converted into
energy to power cars, electric plants and foreign wars.

As societies evolve the ability to use energy, they are better able to
support intellectuals in the manner to which they have grown accustomed.

In short the transformation of energy into biological processes and into
work is all about the many ways that sunbeams get released from bondage.
The study of the flows and paths energy takes is thermodynamics. All of
this is possible because the sun provides more energy than all of us can
possibly use at the moment. It is this inflow of energy that makes this
planet such a Dynamic place.

But entropy is never overcome it is simply overwhelmed.
