I have been bracing myself for that task. 

The short version is: What was called Aretê in ZMM and P. 
identifies with Quality has been Dynamic Aretê/Static Aretê in the 
MOQ. Thus the Homeric heroes of Greece (who display Aretê) 
necessarily belong at some static level, and that must be the 
social level. Pirsig says as much in LILA:  

    Perhaps in Homer's time, when evolution had not yet 
    transcended the social level into the intellectual, the two 
    were the same. 

(what were "the same" is celebrity and goodness)  

Thus it's plain: What's described in ZMM as SOM replacing Aretê 
is the intellectual level emerging out of the social level. For you 
and those who cling to the illusion of American Indians living in 
some golden DQ reality, the quote above may be a sobering 
information. 

 Again: When social value was top notch (before evolution had 
transcended it into intellect) its value was VALUE ITSELF. 
Compare the Value (Aretê) of Ancient Greece and that of the 
Indians: Courage, insensitive to pain, contempt for death ... 
exactly what we see displayed by the Muslim martyrs of to-day
If you are interested I can provide a more "academic" version of 
how to interpret ZMM in a MOQ light.

Yepp here it comes, but this is unjust. I am the one who has 
moved beyond intellect and insist on seeing things from MOQ's 
meta-level where intellect is a STATIC level, while you  seem 
stuck at intellect and try to make the MOQ some New Age 
spiritual nonsense.
