Yes, psychic energy is involved. I'm sure you
experience the fuller experience of making
tea/painting than just positive, negative, or neutral.
I don't think neutral can happen, but I do sense
positive (p), negative (n), or both. Neutral may
happen only when I'm not well aware or I'm ignoring
these p,n, or both.
The fuller experience involves the clean, clear,
no obstructions where the whole tea process will
occur. Where I make the tea, it helps my psychic
experience to have counter space and at least one sink
empty. My psyche is very involved with this earth.
Any distractions, or side maneuvers that take away
from plainly and simply tea process, will touch upon
my psyche. I can gather gumption, and if the day has
been well, these seemingly hurdles are overlooked.
Where I drink tea at a painted window, looking
outside, the same. It must be cleaned up, not too
much going on where I feel I should be cleaning or
putting this or that away instead of drinking tea. To
have these feelings takes away from what I'm presently
doing which is drinking tea. Also, outside, I clear
away all the garbage, and like to notice the natural
beauty of wildness. Some human cultivation occurs,
for I have a bird feeder, and a stick I placed in the
ground to hold bird seed bells. Also, rocks are
present that I've placed where I put bird seed,
squirrel seed, and a salt lick is at the bottom of the
hill. These all fit snug in their place, and do not
prevent enjoyable tea. Of course, the rest of the
house must be in order, the tea prepared with good
taste in mind, and the clothes I'm wearing are to be
comfortable. To have elbow room, and a clear space to
walk to the tea table puts this whole tea process unto
its' own, without interference that would damper this
whole tea path. This tea path is infused with life,
and this tea path is a practice where more and more I
refine this tea path with how I like to live life.
This whole ritual is a living philosophy where sitting
meditation incorporates, too. I sit and then to go on
and walk this tea path enlarges the the meditation
upon a geography involving utensils, tea bags, table,
chairs, bird seed, tea pot, etc... Establishing what
kind of tea, where did the tea come from, the kind of
utensils used, how the tea was brewed, this detail has
a history. These 'things' came from somewhere that
involves a history. During tea drinking I'm connected
with many paths that leave this house. How does my
psyche handle this? Hopefully positively, and then I
infuse positivity into the tea process. These (psyche
and tea) support each other.
Do I think about all of this while I drink tea,
especially the history of the 'things' used? Not
really, except the tea path, how clean everything is,
will come to mind and influence how the tea will taste
and thus, the experience will be. Yet, while I'm not
drinking tea, I try to set everything up, and involve
characters (the utensils, etc...) that encourage the
rest of my walking paths. A stone dropped in a lake
has ripples.

excellent question.
