I'm afraid that I also think the world of President Reagan. In hindsight he
was probably dealing with early dementia while in office. Still, he did a
great deal to shore up this country's confidence and made us (at least me)
proud to be Americans. I think he would be sick to his stomach at what's
happening now.
President Reagan was a great story teller. He once worked as a broadcaster
for Cubs games by reading what was coming over the telegraph wires. One game
the wire went silent and he never missed a pitch. He just had the batter
continue fouling off balls until the wire came up again.
He also told how he had trouble remembering peoples names so he developed a
little trick. He would say, oh I've forgotten your name, and they would tell
him their first name and he would say, oh no, I know that. I want to
introduce you formally and I've forgotten your last name. It made people
feel as if he really cared. And he did. I use the same trick a lot in
dealing with people as I'm bad with names too.
Anyway, he grew up not a half hour from where I live and was infused with
good solid midwestern values. IMO, of course. I liked him a great deal.

I knew the lovefest couldn't last. I think Raygun was evil incarnate, the
devil with a warm smile and friendly handshake. I used to watch his little
fireside chats in a mirror because if you looked at him straight on, you
started thinking, "Awwww, he is so nice. He reminds me of Uncle Harry."
Debt, junk bonds, S&L scandals, Iran-Contra, and disco, that's the Raygun
legacy. Oh and more than 100 administration officials convicted, indicted,
or the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or
criminal violations. These included the Secretaries of the Interior,
Defense, and Labor, the Attorney General, several National Security
advisors.

account. Ok, it's the Nation but still it is actually kind compared to
others I could supply.
