The answer to all the above is move out of the way. With motorcycle
racket there's no escape. And the solution is so easy and so fair --
require mufflers the same as with minivans.
[Arlo]
Really? Where can I move where I can know I will never again be
bothered by chainsaws or BBQs? Maybe you could move there too, as its
a safe bet that if there is a place that's a sure escape from smells,
it must also be a sure escape from sounds. The solution is easier
than you propose. I deal with your BBQ smell, you deal with my pipes.
Ain't community living fun! And I get to enjoy little league, rather
than becoming a shut-in Scrooge.
True story. I had a neighbor call the police on me once. Now, I run
Vance and Hines pipes, that have a bit of a growl, but I keep the
baffles in, and I never bark the pipes. When the police arrived, and
looked at my bike (I started it for them), they said it was fine and
sorry to bother me. But you know what, my good neighborness ended
with him that day, and I made sure that he knew when I was coming and
going. After he moved, and an elderly couple moved in, I went back to
what I considered normal. One day the gentleman was outside and came
over and talked about bikes, asked if I'd give his grandson a ride
around the block, but then said he was sorry to have to ask if
between 6-7 I could be extra quiet because his wife rested during
that time. You know what, for the rest of the time I lived there I
did not come or go on that motorcycle during that time. And that's
how it is. And that's how I handled the chainsaw neighbor. I took him
a beer, talked to him, and asked if he could not saw wood before 11
on Saturday mornings. He obliged. As for the BBQer's, do I even have
to tell you how that ended? Mmmmmm.......
But once again, for a self-professed worshipper of "individual
liberty", you pick and choose your battles to align only to your
particular tastes. Its a convenient hypocrisy that is always amusing.
[Platt]
Which of course has nothing to do with your deliberate act of annoyance.
[Arlo]
Ah, Platt, just like with Case I was only funnin' ya. If I did know
where you lived I assure you I wouldn't go out of my way to drive
loudly by.... more than once a month. ;-)
