What Kevin agrees about is beyond me.
As shown by the quotation from ZMM Pirsig made a point of
reality yielding to new theories about it, Platt's about how Galileo
changed our cosmological outlook is a classical example.
However most people will regard this as ignorance being
replaced by knowledge - intellectual expansion!
Something else is a metaphysics - the absolute basic notion of
reality - being replaced by another. This is no expansion of the
former and has not happened since the S/O metaphysics
replaced the "Aretê Metaphysics" (as described in ZMM) so we
have no experience with such an upheaval, the said cosmological
shift being peanuts. All we know is expansions of SOM or
intellect.
So now that we have a new metaphysics on our hands we have
trouble understanding the enormity of it. Kevin is absolute sure
that the MOQ is a "philosophy and therefore an intellectual
pattern", and Platt is worried about the MOQ leaving intellect -
leaving REASON - and THAT is a valid point. My comfort is that
the level-struggle aspect between intellect and MOQ is a "low-
high" thing, not the orter way, the MOQ will not start a crusade
against its own highest static level...
Why some regards the intellectual level being subordinate to the
DQ/SQ reality (SOM subordinate to the MOQ) such a "lese-
majesty" I don't understand. Maybe Kevin will enlighten me.
