Marsha, Craig, Ham,
Dualism, from my point of view, is any formal system of thought or behavior
that approaches reality as if it were divided into parts. Subject/object
metaphysics is clearly dualistic. Science and mathematics as well as
religious and political institutions are dualistic. And as an intellectual
conception of a reality that by its own admission is greater than itself it
states that Quality is the source of everything, i.e., reality is Quality and vice
versa the Metaphysics of Quality is dualistic.
Depending on their awareness of and presence to reality an individual's
approach to reality may or may not be dualistic. Whether scientist or
mathematician, relgious or politician or advocate of the Metaphysics of
Quality, if a person approaches reality as if it were of separate parts or finite
(thank you Ham for making this distinction) then they are behaving
dualistically. From my point of view, because reality is infinite, all formal,
finite systems of thought are dualistic, i.e., there's reality (one part) and
there's the system that points to reality (second part).
Again from my point of view, nondualistic thought and behavior is any
approach to reality that realizes the oneness of reality. Mystical is a good
description. And the Quality that the MoQ points to is this. But the MoQ is
not this.
