Sorry David but I'm not sure I agree. Surely in getting better
understanding of probablistic nature (I've re-read Prigogine BTW) we
do need to be thinking about the sort of society "we want to make" too
?
Maybe not directly controlled or socially engineered to specific ends,
but surely the point is to establish the optimum conditions (in
near-future society and culture) to optimise longer term futures of
society too ? By establishing optimum (highest quality) methods of
education and governance and the like.
You're not suggesting that we're striving for better understanding of
the world in order to do nothing are you ? To fiddle whilst Rome
burns.
