Ian said:
Respect for whom ? The Sage ? Pirsig ? His undoubted wisdom and original
authorship commands genuine respect, but does not exempt his own statements
of ideas from their contingency, and potential enhancement by dialogue. I'm
here for the dialogue, not respect for authority.

Marsha replied:
I wish I knew wormspeak.

dmb says:
I'd recommend that you learn to speak with weasle words. It's much easier to
pick up and once you know it you'll be able to understand most dialects of
wormspeak, the various forms of turkeytalk and, oddly, your sense of smell
will become more sensitive. The only possible side-effect is that your gag
reflexes might increase in sensitivity also. This can make things a bit
messy.

I the mean time, please allow me to translate for you. Here Ian is turning
his lack of comprehension into a virtue. In this worm's-eye view,
comprehension is an evil and oppressive thing and confusion is just as good
as enlightenment. In this mode of expression, its important to pretend your
opponent said something completely ridiculous and then refute it. Here, for
example, Ian has responded as if someone said, "Bob is always right about
everything" or "What Bob said will be true for all eternity". These are the
sorts of things that make back-peddling and equivocating so fun and easy.
You'll see.
