Laird and Gav,
I am mostly familiar with Dawkins earlier stuff. But I thought and still
think The Selfish Gene was brilliant. I agree nearly 100% with what Laird
quoted too so I may need to free up time for an old friend. I really liked
the SouthPark episode where he does the nasty with the sex changed SouthPark
science teacher.
Ironically where I disagree with him a bit is here:
"Maybe scientists are fundamentalist when it comes to defining in some
abstract what what is meant by 'truth'. But so is everybody else. "
I have been trying to tell dmb that this is the point where we all take our
leaps of faith. The point Dawkins seem to make, then miss is that everybody
does it. Some just have an easier time justifying their leaps.
Ironically, I seem to be a materialist try in vain to justify the notion of
faith the mystic dmb who denies faith and materialism.

The fact that life is a product of inorganic processes is just too well
established to even argue about. You need to just get used to that or get
used having people looking at you funny when you burst out like that.
"...takes the livingness of life away..." that's fucking funny.
Life it is what it is and frankly it ain't all that bad.
