Problem is this is not exactly characteristic of religion. Is god not some
rather nasty score keeper with his eye on you, recording all your sins.
Religion warm and fuzzy. Has it ever been that?

In the Occidental tradition? Definitely not. In the Buddhism tradition, perhaps
more so. But the "warm and fuzzy" I am talking about is the important feeling
that comes from believing some "transcendent intelligence" designed you and
made you for a purpose. "Purpose", as Platt proposes, arises from the act of a
supernatural being. I don't buy it. But he apparently needs it.
