It's obvious that Phaedrus, while teaching at the school in
Montana, lived in SOM reality and began by accepting his
colleagues' question if (his) Quality was subjective or objective.
But while thinking about this dilemma he left SOM-land.

Intellctualizing seems to be synonymous to "thinking" in most
people's vocablary, but (in the SOL interpretation) it's merely
S/O-thinking and as said, when this reached the end of its tether
by the dilemma Phaedrus entered the realm of Quality-thinking.
I hate to say this, but Pirsig's about the MOQ an intellectual
pattern is patently wrong. Intellect is a static level of the MOQ
and can't contain the whole system. Dynamic Quality is after all
part of the MOQ and can't be a static pattern.
This is tried overcome by saying that MOQ's Dynamic/Static
divide is an arbitrary divide of Quality, but this created so much
confusion that now Pirsig says that DQ is the ineffable
"QUALITY" (I'm still searching for the quote).

Well, it's called a "quality event" and - right - isn't S/O-divided.

Phaedrus equalized his Quality with the Greek "Aretê" or
"Excellence" that reigned before the philosopheres introduced the
SOM. In the the said proto-moq Quality was divided into a
Romantic/Classic duality It had no "classic levels", but please
note that the Classic half it is sub-titled "intellect" and splits into
Subjective/Objective. This indicates that Phaedrus didn't see the
initial Romantic/Classic split as an intelectual pattern, rather that
the Classic part was "intellect"! This is the way the final MOQ
should have been intrepreted: The 4th classic-static. level =
intellect = S//O.
