I enjoy most of that stuff too, but that's not the point here. The
problem comes when we become overly attached to these. For example, I
would be disappointed if I lost all of my CDs, but I could function
without them. There is also a problem of credit, where it becomes so
easy to own posessions that people live beyond their means. I don't
think the life of a caveman was necessarily better than ours, but the
caveman could still enjoy the wilderness, food, companionship
(Inorganic, Biological, Social) that was present in his immediate
environment. The advantage we have over the caveman is Intellectual
Quality, which enables us to appreciate such things as Shostakovich
symphonies.

Also, the enjoyment should come from the experience of something and
not the owning of it. I would imagine you have to actually listen to
your CD of a Shostakovich symphony to get the enjoyment out of it.
Another point is that you don't necessarily need the CD to enjoy a
Shostakovich symphony. Your Intellectual Quality allows you to
remember the experience of hearing it, or you could hum it to yourself
(I hum his 5th symphony a lot)!

Anyway, I guess the main point here is to enjoy the experience and not
the ownership. Perhaps that's another purpose: The purpose of life is
to enjoy! So maybe the purpose of life is to grow and to enjoy?
Thoughts?

Enjoying the music of Ravel's Mother Goose Suite,
Steve H

P.S. Which Shostakovich symphony are you listening to? I like No. 5
and No. 12 myself.
