Hi DM,

If we are hardwired to be empathetic and compassionate, a few thugs at the
top dedicated to silencing all dissenters wouldn't have been able to control an
entire nation, killing millions in the process. Nor would the U.S. during the
40's have turned away a boat load of Jews trying to escape from Nazi Germany.
History simply belies the notion of hard-wired morality except for the morality
of the biological level, namely, "Me first."
