It took some time before I saw the relevance to my above, but 
finally.

In writing LILA Pirsig refused to see the obvious SOM=intellect 
and this forced him make SOM a "bogus" that had invaded the 
intellectual level. What this level had been before SOM is a 
mystery, if we superimpose LILA on ZMM it looks like the Aretê  
age, but that can't be, as it clearly belongs to the social level. 
Anyway, this resulted in his complaints as if SOM had blinded 
intellect to its social origin. 

But no level knows anything about levels or origin in previous 
levels, Pirsig's fallacy was that of insisting that intellect is what 
contains the MOQ and - as said - hadn't it been for the 
abominable SOM it would have had a clear view to the Quality 
context. But did the social level see the said context when IT was 
top notch? 

NB!
In ZMM it does look like Aretê is identical to Quality (DQ) and 
that SOM came along and threw existence out of its bliss, but in 
this view life as an animal would have been even greater bliss, 
not to speak of death (inorganic existence) or Nirvana itself of 
only DQ?

However the MOQ does not fit this. In it the overall picture 
belongs to the meta-level above its own static range, and in that 
picture SOM is intellectual "bogus" out of social "bogus" ...and so 
on downwards. All static levels are "bogus", only the DQ/SQ 
dualism is not.
