Becoming extinct IS evolution too.
That could be either an indication sign that something of higher
quality has evolved to beat us at our own game - bacteria say - or a
(presumably long) temporary set-back for our genes and memes - but I
wouldn't want to jump to conclusions from this distance.

It's no bed of roses.
