Neither Kevin nor I claim that individuals who comprise the intellectual
level are independent of the social level. We're simply saying they dominant
the intellectual level, just as the collectives of church and state dominant
the social level. Intellect is not a collective process; it is an attribute
of an individual.

If the "intellectual level" were confined to the individual we would still
be banging rocks together.
