Yes, I never understand why yuppies find it necessary to carry a
bottle of water around with them at all times. Must have something to
do with bottle feeding when babies, and they just can't, or won't,
grow up. (After all, "progressive" government will care for them like
children.)
[Arlo]
Can't have anything to do with foul-tasting tap water or aggressive
free-market advertising, can it? Naaaahhh..... Must be "liberalism".
[Platt]
As for local water supplies that come out of taps, they're clean. My
monthly water bill and good health testifies to it.

Our tap water tastes horrible. I run a distiller at home on all my
drinking water. But even that is far cheaper than buying bottled
water, and filling our landfills up with mountains of plastic bottles.
But the water where I work tastes fine out of the fountain. Indeed, I
fill up my reusable bottle from it. But sitting next to it is a
bottled water machine that is empty by the end of each week.
Sometimes I do think its a bit like the Starbucks phenomenon, you
know, you're "cool" if you're carrying around a "Starbucks" cup, but
a Dunkin' Donuts cup or (GASP!) a thermos from home makes you very
untrendy and mockable. I know students who actively dislike
Starbucks, but tell me they use a Starbucks cup because it makes them
appear hip. Ah the wonders of marketing....
