Well, comparing the Quality of the garbage that gets shipped in from the
USA and the much higher Quality programming which the BBC produces,
give me Big Brother any day (not the reality TV show crap). Most of the
US stuff is aimed at the lowest common denominator and the problem there
is that you get the lowest common denomination. There are a few US
produced things which aren't too bad but most of it really is dire and
it seems to be little more than filler in between the ads. Your program
producers also seem to try and turn anything vaguely popular into a
soap. God help us if that's the future of TV! At least the Beeb does
provide a large amount of good comedy, documentary, satire, music, plays
etc. and doesn't seem overly concerned about upsetting some with
unpopular or different points of view. And they also have the advantage
that they don't need to worry about if and/or when they might upset some
company which pays the bills through advertising. That's where the real
problem lies with advert sponsored TV such as you have in the US.
So thanks but I'll stick with Big Brother, no ads and high Quality
programs and you can keep the programs which don't offend the precious
corporations.
