Cheers Platt. It's nice to be appreciated.
Looking at the above acronyms and gobbledygook ( a technical term), as
Case said (more or less), 30 seconds on Google and you can become a more
informed person - but I can understand that for the most part this is of
no interest to most people who just want to get on and use the computer.
However, it is always useful and, more often than not, financially
prudent, to understand what's going on with the articles that play a
large part in our lives, like computers. It saves you getting ripped off
or stitched up by parasites who might otherwise prey on your lack of
knowledge.
If you have a basic knowledge of mechanical processes you can save a
fortune by servicing your own motor vehicle and in the process probably
extend the life of it as you don't have to let some under-performing
grease-monkey near your expensive (or in my case dirt cheap) automobile.
You don't need to be able to design an engine or suspension system!
The same thing applies with computers, you don't need to be able to
write software just be aware of the basic processes (of which the above
are not good examples). It makes the computing "experience" (vomit!)
more rewarding as you won't have spyware and viruses crawling all over
your bit and bytes. Although if you use Microsoft products you can't get
away from it and you have to pay a lot of money for the privilege.
Cheers
