there can't be value to those playing in a high school band, even if
that value is mostly to themselves.  Any reason that you have such
limited tastes Platt?

Yes, I always prefer excellence to the mediocre.

If by elitist you mean someone who discriminates between good and bad art, then
I proudly accept the label. I certainly do not consider my amateur art to be
as good as that of Tom Benton or Andrew Wyeth. In fact, compared to them I'm
awful.

If you always prefer excellence to the mediocre then why are you an
artist, when you described your own art as "awful"?  Would you
encourange others to devlop artistic abilities, especially high school
kids, or would you rather discourage them?
