Perhaps truth is inside and we look to the outside for validation.

I think of validation as something done after the fact. Were I work we
validate software and automated manufacturing processes, e.g., CNC
equipment. The software is coded and the equipment is tooled and fixtured
and only after these steps have been taken is the process validated.

Or it could be that what you describe is the internal processing. Validation
really doesn't occur until customers install and run the software in the
world outside.
