I'm no ruissian scholar but didnt the revolution usher in communism?
Peristroyka, Glasnost, none of this ring a bell? Gradual reform from the top allowed for a degree of  increased market freedoms and was swiftly followed by economic collapse. Putin's return to autocracy has proved the only effective remedy in recent years.
