Not sure about the Wilbur take, but to me the omega point is the
last sip of brandy after a last supper in the restaurant at the end of
the universe - the very end - hopefully before the waiter arrives with
the check. To me "ends" are pragmatic things achieved. The Pirsig view
- evolution - reality as self-organising complex systems - is so much
more here and now - real.

Ah the restaurant at the end of the universe where the dish of the day is a
future Dr. Who. If you read through to the end, you will find Adams' ending
slightly more than ironic, cynical, nihilistic and sudden than a leisurely
diner at Milliways'.
The Omega Point ending is hyper-hopeful. The universe becomes increasing
complex to the point of divinity. This is a silly notion which Wilber and
Tipler like him abuse shamelessly. Tipler at least has the decency to have
active agency in the present pushing the Point.
