If you will take the trouble to examine the context of the above
quote you will see Pirsig calling "robbing" a biological value. He
also identifies "theft" as a biological pattern in several places
in Lila. Example:

"Second, there were moral codes that established the supremacy of the social order
over biological life — conventional morals — proscriptions against drugs, murder,
adultery, theft and the like." (Lila, 13)
