...  I'm not sure what angle you're at, but
 pre-intellect being pre-experience sounds like idealism, the kind Pirsig flirted
 with in his discourse on ghosts in the beginning of ZMM, because if
 experience is reality, then before intellect there was nothing.  I don't
 think that's right.  One of the things we know about the world, through
 experience, is that it's been around a lot longer than us, language
 and a lot of other things.


gav: maybe. in the beginning was the word....depends on how you look at it. 
another way....meaning, truth is apprehended immediately, aesthetically. it is felt. the intellect then *translates* this truth, in doing so it makes the dynamic static, it takes a snapshot, it denotes some*thing*, and we are in the realm of duality, of opposites and truth here appears paradoxical, a riddle,  a never-ending quest.

but the truth is simple and it is quality or god or Tao or whatever else you want to stab it with. 

quality therefore is the truth. it is meaning (gonna keep stabbing for the hell of it). it presupposes intelligence: truth and meaning make no sense apart from intelligence. perhaps this is a source of confusion: the intelligence of the tao is prior to intellect, to reflection, but it is an *order*, an implicit order, as opposed to the explicit order created by intellect. 

so there is a parallel here. in some way quality, pre-intellectual experience, is ordered, is constructed, created by something.... the mythos perhaps. the mythos is the language of the *uni*verse, it is the language of one, of experience, of felt meaning, of simple truth. the mythos is the 'word' that begins? maybe. i think i need to read Ulysses.
